EDAG: Winged Dotted Ashtray

Popular Form

Uncommon winged design/form

Rarity Scale 6.5

Danilo Pavanello & EDAG

1964

If you look closely, you’ll notice how fluid and sculptural this Canadian art glass piece is made by EDAG Crystal, out of Montreal Quebec.. The form feels almost organic, with softly tooled wings extending outward, giving the impression of lift and motion even while the piece is at rest.

The glass is warm and honeyed in colour, dominated by rich amber tones that glow as light passes through them. Small blue dots are embedded throughout the surface, adding contrast and visual rhythm while drawing the eye across the form. From different angles, the wings and layered glass reveal new depths and reflections, encouraging a slower, more attentive look.

Despite its expressive shape, the piece remains balanced and approachable. It works beautifully as a standalone object, yet it also fits comfortably among larger works, complementing the surrounding space without overpowering it. This is a piece that continues to change gently with the light around it.
